Athletic Mouthguards

Dental injuries are common in contact sports and other recreational activities. A properly fitted, custom athletic mouthguard is the best available protection for your teeth. Athletic mouthguards will reduce the incidence and severity of a sports related dental injury.

Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth when dental implants are not an option.

The bridge consists of two crowns that cap over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years.

There are several types of bridges. You and Dr. Ginsburg will discuss the best options for your particular case.

Crowns (Caps)

If you’re self-conscious about your smile due to cracked, broken, decayed or worn teeth, we can bring back your healthy, natural-looking smile with crowns. A filling can restore a small defect in a tooth, but a crown is the most durable, strongest way to restore a tooth with extensive damage – front or back – for the long term. Modern materials allow for crowns to be very aesthetic and match your existing teeth.

Additional benefits of crowns are to correct bite problems, close spaces between teeth, or to change the angulation of teeth. Crowns can be used to replace missing teeth permanently, as part of a bridge, or over an implant.

Implants

Permanent, Secure Tooth Replacements
When permanent teeth are lost, regardless of the reason or number of teeth, dental implants are an excellent option for tooth replacement. They are superior to other choices because they are solid, secure, and aesthetically pleasing. After nearly 35 years of use, they have an over 95% success rate in appropriately chosen cases.

An implant is a special surgical grade titanium post, manufactured to highly precise specifications, under strict sterile conditions, that is inserted surgically into the jawbone. With the use of the newest anesthetics and medications, you need not be concerned about pain. As your bone integrates into the implant, it forms a secure foundation onto which your new teeth are attached and shaped to match your mouth. The number of teeth being replaced will determine the best kind of restoration for you. Implants can help replace a single tooth, or a full set of teeth. If you have missing teeth, full or partial dentures, or think you need teeth extracted, do not hesitate to call 617-536-9057 or contact us for a consultation.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a method of orthodontic treatment which uses a series of clear, removable teeth aligners to gradually shift your teeth into place. It is a cosmetic alternative to traditional metal braces. Each tooth aligner is individually manufactured and custom made for your teeth.

Nightguards

A nightguard is a mouth guard that is used to protect your teeth from grinding or wearing against each other while you sleep. There are different types of nightguards and various reasons why people grind their teeth. If necessary, Dr. Ginsburg will help you find the right nightguard for you.

Porcelain Inlays/Onlays

An inlay or onlay restoration is a custom made filling made of composite material, gold, or tooth-colored porcelain. Porcelain inlays are popular because they resemble your natural tooth. A porcelain inlay is made by a professional dental laboratory and is permanently cemented into the tooth by your dentist.

Inlays can be utilized to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by decay or trauma. Inlays are an ideal alternative to conventional silver and composite fillings. Also, they are more conservative than crowns because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of inlays. They are highly durable and will last many years, giving you a beautiful long lasting smile.

Onlays are an ideal alternative to crowns (caps) because less tooth structure is removed during the preparation of onlays. Reasons for Inlay or Onlay restorations:
• Broken or fractured teeth
• Cosmetic enhancement
• Decayed teeth
• Fractured fillings
• Large fillings

Porcelain Veneers

Take Your Smile From Average to Dazzling
Porcelain Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain used to recreate the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel. It is often the material of choice for those looking to make slight changes in tooth position, or to change tooth size, shape or color.

We will be glad to help evaluate your specific situation, listen to the exact changes you have in mind, and show you examples of the end result, before any treatment is performed. Often, porcelain veneers can be completed in only two visits.

Root Canals

A root canal is usually performed on a cracked tooth, a tooth with decay or a cavity that has reached the nerve or pulp of the tooth. Decay can come from the top of the tooth (or chewing surface), or from the bottom of the tooth, around the roots of the tooth. Once bacteria reaches the pulp of the tooth, it cannot be removed by conventional methods. The pulp contains nerves, blood vessels and tissue which provide nourishment to the tooth. This entire pulp, once affected by bacteria, must be cleaned out of the tooth canal or canals.

Symptoms of Root Canal Therapy:
• Hot or cold sensitivity that won’t subside
• Pain when chewing or eating
• Throbbing pain that disturbs sleep
• Pain when simply touching a tooth
• Pain that lasts for more than a few seconds at a time
• Pain that gets progressively worse and is unbearable

Please call right away at 617-536-9057 if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms.

Occasionally, you will be referred to a specialist (endodontist) for root canal procedures. Dr. Ginsburg works with only the most highly qualified surgeons and specialists.

Teeth Whitening

Professional tooth whitening in a dental office is the best whitening method because even though stronger whitening agents are applied to the teeth, the rest of the mouth and gums is protected from these materials. In-office teeth whitening is extremely effective. Many people can brighten their teeth up to 5 shades in about one hour.

Take-home whitening is also an alternative or used in addition to in-office teeth whitening. Custom fitting tooth whitening trays are fabricated for you which results in less gum irritation that anything purchased over the counter. Often, take-home whitening trays are used after in-office whitening.
